Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday admitted that the Fisheries Rest House in Handwara remained under unauthorized occupation and generated no income during the past three years.
In response to a query by MLA Sheikh Khursheed, the Minister I/C, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said no income was realized from the rest house during the last three years.
The government disclosed that the rest house remained under occupation from time to time. From August 8, 2020 to September 21, 2020, it was occupied by security forces during the DDC elections. Since January 8, 2021, the rest house has been under the occupation of a politician.
The Minister stated that the assessment of rent or penalty payable by the occupant, as per rules is under process. It further informed the House that no rent was fixed during the period of occupation and, therefore, no rent has been realized so far.
On the question of eviction, the government said the matter has been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara. The case is under examination in the Deputy Commissioner’s office and necessary action for eviction will be taken as per rules—(KNO)
